Gaining weight is the result of consuming more calories than your body is using on a daily basis. When you consume more calories than you burn, your body will store the surplus in the form of fat. And every 3500 calories adds up to one pound in body weight.
So to lose weight you have to limit the amount of calories you are consuming, but that is not all. You also need to increase your metabolism so that your body shreds the fat storage.
Here are some ways to increase your metabolism:
- Not everybody will enjoy this but losing weight from the couch is going to be a slow process. So do some walking or go to a gym. Short, high intensity work-out work better than slow, longer lasting work-outs. The trick is to get your heart rate up to over 120 beats per minute.
- Muscle building. Make sure you do not lose muscle when you are on a diet. Muscle burns more calories so keep those up. Because men have naturally more muscle they lose pounds easier than women. Do some exercises with weights, it helps.
- Drink lots a water. At least 8 glasses of 8 ounces per day. Your body needs water to burn calories. Preferably drink water or an unsweetened drink 30 minutes before a meal.
